Rewind to September dawns from a River Cabin
These few pictures were taken at dawn from just above the River at River of Life Farm. The cold water and warner air in September always make for a gorgeous dawn. Canon EOS 5D with 24-105mm L lens.

Driving into River of Life Farm - 9/08
The scenic drive down to the river bottoms from a grassy field on the hill top onto a point between the rugged canyon where the River of Life Spring arises and the North Fork River, through a band of 100 year old shortleaf pines, through a narrow band of black walnuts and sycamores and onto the river bottoms.

Mississippi Kite close up
American Goldfinch in very early spring colors
I just saw a goldfinch with early plumage molt on January 23, 2009. Got a picture with my Canon 5D MK II handheld with a Canon 300mm f.2.8 USM IS. Even though the temperatures are supposed to drop into the teens with snow through next Wed., he reminds me that spring is coming soon.

September Morning at Whispering Pines Cabin
at ROLF; with the dawning sun filtering through the pine trees. There was fog in the valley and a pine tar aroma penetrated the cabin. There are few birds to hear by the end of September but the woodpeckers were busy pounding nuts into crevices in almost every tree for a long winter store. In August and September the the North Fork's narrow valleys, dense fog is quite common until the sun and morning breezes move it away about 9-10 AM. Taken with Canon EOS 5D. One near dawn and one 30 minutes after sun-up.
