Gas prices coming down at Crossroads Store 10/1

At $ 3.58 per gallon , the price was down from a high of over $4.25 for unleaded regular down by September 30, 2009. I have been stopping at this store for 44 years. It used to be across the gravel road with a price of under 20 cents per gallon in 1965.

Another beautiful day ends on the North Fork River

Photo taken from McKee Bridge looking downstream. Picture taken in September 2008.

Driving into River of Life Farm - 9/08

The scenic drive down to the river bottoms from a grassy field on the hill top onto a point between the rugged canyon where the River of Life Spring arises and the North Fork River, through a band of 100 year old shortleaf pines, through a narrow band of black walnuts and sycamores and onto the river bottoms.

Jacks Riffle in the Winter

This picture reveals the bluff which is not visible in the "leaved out" months. This hole is  beautiful refuge for large Rainbow and Brown trout.

Canon 5D with 600mm L EF IS Lens at ROLF

Which is the long lens I use with a 1.4X TC to reach out to 840mm for close-ups of birds, etc. It is connected to a Canon 5D full frame DSLR.

North Fork in late September 2008 - an autumn view

I was standing next to the river watching the late afternoon day when this image appeared due to changing colors of the sycamores.

Finally the Milky Way at 9:00 PM at ROLF

The stars were incredible on this cold and clear September night.

Sunset much later at nearly the same spot ant ROLF

and see the tree full of black walnuts is missing all of it's leaves already.

Leaves starting to turn -- Autumn 2008

It is only the 20th of September, in one of the wettest years and early falls on record,  and I took a few pictures yesterday of hard maples and winged sumac leaves that have already started to turn red and orange.

Thunderstorm in progress at ROLF -- 8/7/08

A series of non-severe thunderstorms popped up on the afternoon of 8/7/08. I went up the hill and got a picture of some cloud to ground lightening into a fog bank over the lower North Fork valley.

Just a picture reminder to all; it is almost autumn

I love autumn on the North Fork and it should begin to show in 2-3 weeks. Signs of fall have already began. Autumn colors begin to peak in the southern Ozarks around the middle of October; some years a little later. It starts to cool down into the 50's at night and the mornings are typically foggy in the river valley, unless there is a front in the area. Afternoons are usually sunny with a "high blue" sky and warm. Crickets chirp all day long. Sunrises and sunsets are often dabbled with spectacular colors, helped by the continuous changing of leave color. Make plans to get out: NOW. Picture from above Rainbow Springs on the upper river.
